Bert Douglas was a prolific contributor to magic magazines, and this booklet brings together some of his finest creations — all of which appeared in The Linking Ring — in revised form. The great Sid Lorraine provides beautifully clear illustrations, and Douglas’s crisp, concise prose guides the reader through everything from a torn-and-restored newspaper to card manipulations. Budding prop builders will have plenty to busy themselves with here, as a straw boater and cane transform into a table, a pipe, cigar and cigarette repeatedly switch places, and a miniature golf bag and ball appear in lieu of the more familiar bottles in an entertaining “passe passe” routine. That’s not to say that every item in Magic Worth Knowing’s sixty-eight pages requires specialist tools to put together, however, as a number of card effects and pocket tricks attest. An entertaining selection of highly workable stage routines.
